Profile

I am the Project Facilitator, Kirriemuir Community Garden at St. Mary's Field.
I started the community garden in September, 2020 as part of the Sustainable Kirriemuir network of projects. The garden is run entirely by volunteers, like myself. My philosophy is 'Everyone Is Equal On The Field'. We have an acre of land in the centre of Kirriemuir. Surrounded by trees and looking across the strath to the hills, it is a beautiful space. We grow fruit, vegetables, herbs, and flowers using low impact gardening while encouraging biodiversity with wild areas. People can access the produce in a range of ways: they can buy it at our local zero waste shop, which is a community enterprise; they can buy it from our potting shed during our opening hours; or they can volunteer and receive a portion of what is harvested at the end of the session. Everyone is welcome.
This is my first community growing project.
I am a journalist with a special interest in rural affairs, food and drink, farming, fisheries, and social justice. I founded and run the clear provenance campaign, #keepScotlandtheBrand, which has a focus on food standards, farming and animal welfare, and food security.
